2012 New Year Fitness Challenge
The Placid Athlete 2012 New Year Fitness Challenge is a 5-week conditioning program to get your New Year started right!
How it Works
- We will meet as a group in central Austin on New Year’s Day (Jan 1, 2012), and do a fitness test consisting of a few exercises. These exercises may include push-ups, sit-ups or crunches, squats, or similar exercises for upper body, lower body, and core, plus it will include a timed run (or walk/jog, as appropriate). (I’m not telling you all the details now, as it will spoil the fun!) This will be your benchmark for the Fitness Challenge.
- Each week, you will earn points for swimming, biking, running, walking, and for body-weight strength workouts. You will log your progress by posting daily comments on the blog! (Click here for some more detailed rules and guidelines for posting workouts.)
- At the end of the 5 weeks (Feb 5, 2012), we will meet again as a group and re-test to see how much you have improved over your benchmark score from Jan 1!
- Overall score for the Fitness Challenge will be determined as a blend of how much you improve on the fitness test along with points earned from working out each week.
- All finishers get an award, plus bonus awards will be given to the top 3 finishers! (See below)
[If you do not live in Austin but want to participate, you still can! You can perform the two fitness tests on your own and put them on youtube (or otherwise provide me with access to a video record of your doing the tests), and participate in our online forum. ]

- First Prize: 1-month custom training plan
- Second Prize: 1-hour personal training session
- Third Prize: 4-week conditioning template
- Everyone who completes both fitness tests and participates throughout the challenge will receive a one-on-one consultation with the coach at the conclusion of the program to assess progress and develop goals for the remainder of 2012. [For those outside of Austin, the consultation will be by phone or Skype.]
