The Worry Chair

Many of us suffer from self-doubt, lack of confidence.  We spend a lot of time on negative self-talk, which hampers performance, both during training and on race day.

The good news is that as with physical training, we can benefit from mental training.

One technique to battle the negativism is to limit negative self-talk to a specific time of day, and perhaps even a specific location. For example, you can schedule a 15-minute time during the day to focus completely on self-doubt and worries. Pick a time of day and WALLOW in it.   The rest of the day, if any negative thoughts pop into your head, remind yourself that you have scheduled 2-2:15 PM (for example) as the designated worry time.  In addition, you can specify a specific location to do the worrying, such as a particular chair.  Just as you are supposed to reserve your bed for sleep (and not work, for example) to encourage restful sleep, by limiting worries to The Worry Chair, you can learn to limit your negative self-talk to that specific time and location.

Learn to control the negative self-talk and see your performance improve!
